BMW iX + OBD Live Data issues

H
Hemanth Pai

I tried using a supported OBD (OBDLink CX) for trip planning with Live Data. I noticed a few things:
* It doesn’t read SOC from the car - I need to set it manually
* I tried calibrating the value by manually adjusting the SOC to match the car’s actual SOC. Even after that, while driving, the ABRP app showed SOC that was less than the actual SOC of the car

I verified that the OBD was connected to ABRP (Green Bluetooth icon in the app). I tried resetting the ABRP app completely.

Hi Hemanth,

I can see the connection was established and saved, and we've read other values via the OBD connection - but not SoC for some reason.

To clarify, there is no way for you to manually calibrate the reference consumption. We do have functionality for manual adjustment for vehicles with no live data connection, but this might not work as intended if there is a live data connection that isn't providing live values as expected.

Resetting settings for planning does not reset the connections for your saved vehicles. To reset a live data connection please see; www.iternio.com/faq?questionId=eb5eb053-594a-40db-8ca1-2e98f829bece&appDefId=14c92d28-031e-7910-c9a8-a670011e062d

I can also suggest looking at this section for recommendations for the CX; www.iternio.com/faq?questionId=184bd54c-56cf-4c04-866d-9fcefba7b70f&appDefId=14c92d28-031e-7910-c9a8-a670011e062d

It could be that the live data connection wasn't established correctly just. We haven't received any other reports of issues with OBD for the iX models.

I’m aware that I can’t adjust the reference consumption manually when using live data. I was talking about manually adjusting SOC value.

I’m also aware that resetting planning won’t reset saved connections. I removed the vehicle and added it back exactly as mentioned in the link you provided

Already done things listed in the CX specific doc.

Do you know for a fact that there other customers who are successfully using your app with an OBD adapter on a BMW iX? From the research I did (iX owners forum for example), I don’t think people know you can use an OBD - I believe support for the iX + OBD was added recently?

Hi Hemanth,

Good! Then we're on the same page.

As mentioned in the other ticket, OBD Support for the iX models was enabled over a year ago; abrp.upvoty.com/b/obd-requests/bmw-ix

Yes we have recent records of iX models being connected via OBD, data being read, consumption being calibrated etc. but we have no way of knowing what OBD dongle they're using.

Other than that I can't see a reason for this not working as expected. We have seen, with some Chinese EV models that the OBD commands differ depending on region. Though this shouldn't be the case with BMW, may I ask where in the world you're located?

I’m located in the United States. Is there a “debug mode” of some sort within the app to collect logs and send it over to you for analysis?

Hi Hemanth
Does your OBD have the latest firmwre? Do you have the latest version of ABRP?

H

Hemanth Pai

Hello,

Yes, it has the latest firmware (5.8.1)

I also have the latest version of ABRP: 4.7.1 (2561)

Hi
Can you please unlink the OBD, remove the car in the app and then add the car again and link the OBD.

Hi Linda - Yea, I tried this and when I added the car again, it started with a SOC of 90% (my car was at 49%)

Hi Hemanth,

90% is the default value and indicates, that there is no data incoming. When you setup the OBD connection an initial set of values read from OBD should be shown. Did an error show up or anything while setting up OBD?

Can you please click on your car settings in ABRP, and check if any data is shown there, when you are connected to the car?
