Please enable classic Bluetooth OBDII readers

T
Thomas Greene

The new vehicle SOC data integration is great, but it requires a BLE OBDII reader for direct in-app use. Please enable use of regular Bluetooth OBDII readers as well.

Lelink OBD BLE used to work before but nowdays gives an error, why? As my OBDLink LX isn't supported would like to use at least that..

Maybe read the ABRP manual and device recommendation before buying an OBDII adapter. If GoogleMaps, Waze or Apple Maps didn't integrate it, maybe the hardware and connexion protocol are not old or a bit complicated 🙄🤷‍♂️ For family and friend, we used the vLinker MC+ with an iPhone and it works, over BT.

Is there any update regarding MFI integration, or are we all just being ignored?

Merged with: Add support for MFi (e.g. OBDLink MX+ and vGate vLinker FS BT)

A

As more OBD dongles receive MFi (made for iOS, CarPlay, etc) certification, like the blinker FS BT and the OBDLink MX+, it would be great to have MFi support. MFi has added security features as well as many of the benefits of BLE.

T

Thomas

Same like Petr, vLinkerFS adds significant security to the BLE link, please support this kind of MFI devices very soon. Thanks

This odb is generally used in the Tesla community (e.g. scanmytesla app) it is secure, low energy and no brainer. It would be wondefull if you van add support for it in ABRP.

My Carista dongle works with ABRP flawlessly

Stupid me, I bought vLinker FS and it only has MFi and is not visible in ABRP, I would be super happy if this support would be enabled!

If abrp is installed in an android head unit (I'm in the process of setting one up for my car) then USB odb2 readers would be extremely useful. Can this be extended to BT and USB support?

Please program compatibility for the OBDLink MX+. There have been many requests for this for several years. It is time to enable it. Thank you.

I realized that ABRP does not need ODB support if you are OK to connect it to your Tesla account. For sure I would prefer a direct link but usage of the "realtime" data from the Tesla account is OK. The caveats are : 1) does not work when you dont have access to your cellular network (either form the car or the phone). 2) you might not want to allow access to your Tesla acocunt from third parties applications.

Adding my vote for OBDLink MX+ support

Hi! Another polite request for a status report here. I am curious to know if it is a big issue to resolve as I'd definitely use ABRP more if it supported a top quality iOS compatible dongle.

Hello, please add support for OBDLink MX+ to your app. The app is very good, but unfortunately can't support this one of the best dongles on the market. Would very appreciate it. Thank you and best reagrd, Michael

ABRP cannot see my connected OBDLink MX+ dongle on iOS.
This device works with classic bluetooth, not BLE.
Does ABRP support this type of connection on iOS?

Bluetooth access is enabled to ABRP and the dongle is connected.

I have an OBDLink MX+ dongle and ABRP Live Data cannot see it in the Live Data ABRP OBD Connection link.

Can you please add support for Konwei BT dongles that have been recommended for Renault Zoe. The UUID for these are 0x2902

My Konwai KW902 ELM 327 Bluetooth dongle I formerly used with my Q210 Zoe, is not a BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) dongle, and therefore it is not supported by ABRP.

Only BLE dongles can be supported by ABRP.

Actually not needed on TESLA but would really help on other cars.

I'd love to be able to use my high performance OBDLink MX+ with ABRP.

Classic Bluetooth provides much better performance than BLE.

The MX+ is a classic Bluetooth dongle that works with iOS (certified MFi), as opposed to most classic Bluetooth dongles that only work on Android.

Please support this quite expensive high-quality OBD-Bluetooth adapter which is very fast and considered be safe because pairing is only possible within a short time after pressing the button.

Just adding that I also would like support for ODBLink MX+! Started a premium account because I thought the new ODB features would work for me but I was unlucky, should have checked if my dongle was LE or not first. :)

I'll just start by apologizing. I am 59 years old and not that familiar with all the new techniques. I may not be in the right place now with my question/request. I agree with slaute.

I have the same equest: Is it possible for you to make ABRP suitable to communicate with the OBDII dongle OBDLink MX+? It has a physical pairing button for a more secure way to connect this dongle to my iPhone 11/ABRP/Hyundai IONIQ 5.

What I want is support for OBDLink LX.

Try using a better OBD reader. That should support non ble devices.

Avatar

Tom Greene

What is "a better OBD reader?"

The ABRP blog explicitly states that only BLE readers work - have you been able to get a non-BLE reader to work directly with ABRP? Which reader?

ABetterObdReader is an Android app described here (German): www.goingelectric.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=67839&sid=76d94cf28d9c968d7fafc453045c0aa6

Installed on an (Android) phone, it can relay SoC information from the Bluetooth-OBD2 dongle to ABRP through their API.

ABRP only supports OBD dongles with BLE right now.

T

Thomas Greene

PS This suggestion is intended for the Android version of ABRP

S

Sam Bratt

There is OBDLink MX + that is approved by IOS ( and true classic Bluetooth with regular firmware updates)...but mostly classic Bluetooth when become merged will be mostly for Android users.

T

Thomas Greene

OK, but does that device or any other classic Bluetooth device work with ABRP now (at least on Android)?

S

Sam Bratt

Only BLE dongles work for now
