Very Slow ABRP on Apple CarPlay

Hi, yesterday I did my first long Trip with ABRP and Apple CarPlay… and it was horrible… nearly Unusable !!!
First : ABRP was very laggy and the has slow all my CarPlay
Because of this… the position reported on the screen was clearly late.. very late… about 10 to 30 seconds late.
Si it was nearly impossible to follow the Navigation instructions…
Is there something to do in order to correct these problems ?
The App version is 4.2.2
My IOS version is 15.5

Yes we previously (14 days ago) asked if any user who'd voted or reported this issue still could see it and as nobody disagreed we then changed it to the appropriate status.
As I replied to C S below we'd be happy to reopen the case if we can confirm it still isn't resolved.
We're waiting for Upvoty to allow video uploads but until then you can either upload it to an external source such as youtube, google drive or such and link it here or, email it to support via the 'support & feedback' section in the app.

As you can see the position on my phone is accurate whereas the position on CarPlay is wrong and late…
My phone is connected to CarPlay so I don’t know why they don’t have the same position…
Can you confirm that you’ve been received the video ?

This problem is not solved. I tried again last week and there was no noticeable difference. I will try again on my drive home this afternoon to verify and report back.

I apologize for the delay in my response. I ran a check today, using 4.2.12 (1119) and the delay issue appears to be solved. Thank you for addressing this issue. The phone is still getting overheated to the point that my iPhone says it has turned off charging due to the overheating.

We have not heard any reports of these problems since 4.2.12 so we will assume it has been solved now. Let us know if this is not the case!

It worked fine last week. I wonder if this was partly an overheating problem of iPhone attached to the windshield. That heat caused the iPhone CPU to slow down too much...

Hi Andreas,
Great to hear! It's definitely possible that the heat played part in this. I have also seen reports (not specific to ABRP) of overheating issues with different iOS versions, so it might be a combination of things.

We have found a number of potential issues and fixed them for the 4.2.1.11 release this week. We have also added a bug report button which can be used to send us a report of the app internals when things like this occur - it will help us understand what happens in your case.

This problem is connected to other issues, like abrp.upvoty.com/b/report-a-bug/the-longer-carplay-is-open-the-slower-it-gets/ this one. BTW the iphone get really hot, so I guess its a programming failure producing infinite loops or consumes more and more memory. It happens every time and starts a little laggy and gets worse. Even makes the problems with carplay. I exported the plan into Google Maps wich navigates fine even with ABRP in the background.

We are not able to reproduce the problem in our headunits in the office nor in the test cars, so we need to dig deeper.
Andreas, I have tagged your ABRP account to be tester so that you can press a "bug" button on top of the phone screen whenever you have issues with this. Let us know a time when you did send in a report (ignore the ID, we will find it) and we may find out more from this.

Another follow-up question: Is the phone screen on when this happens? Are you using detailed mode (with the chart)?

Can you reproduce this issue every you start ABRP or does only happen sometimes? This kind of performance if of course not acceptable, and we need to find a way to reproduce it to be able to fix it.

It is very laggy every time I use it. Starts out ok but the longer it is open the more it lags. To the point that it affects other apps as well. I am on 4.2.9 (1040). Once I close ABRP everything goes back to normal.

Are you using OBD for live data? What iPhone model? We need to try to find a common factor in this problem as it does not affect most users .

I’m on V4.2.8 which is the most recent version I can download. I am experiencing very sluggish CarPlay. When I tap on the screen with ABRP up, it can sometimes take 15-20 secs (maybe more) for anything to happen. Once ABRP is off the screen CarPlay returns to normal. My phone also gets hot while ABRP is running in CarPlay.

Same problem on my side !
Yesterday I tried to reboot my phone as factory settings… and it did not work… I’m waiting for ABRP to do something…
I have seen a lot of similar cases but unfortunately without solutions… ABRP is visibly ok to propose a feature for 5€/Month for something which is unusable…

V4.2.2 is outdated, the latest one is V4.2.8
You should give V4.2.8 a try where some issues are corrected.

Yes indeed we fixed some GPS related problems causing the position to lag behind. Also in 4.2.6 we did a major performance boost. So the app should be much more stable now. Please try the latest version.

My App version is 4.2.8
I have been redownloading the app 3 days ago.
I tried again on yesterday afternoon on a small route and the position lag was still here… and as I said on my first post because of this, the app is unusable on CarPlay
