Seasonal closures

Planning a trip in the Swiss Alps next summer. But the app uses current status for the passes (open/closed) instead of summer conditions.
Bellinzona - Interlaken via Nufenen & Grimsel passes.

Hello,
I am planning a trip in norway end of may. roads that are closed in winter are opened again in may but the planner does not allow them eventhough I entered a proper date in the planner. My itinerary is useless as it goes around the roads that I should be able to plan : exemple route 63 trollatigen.
Thanks for advising how to calculate properly. Cheers

Some roads are closed during winter, but opened in summer. The map is unable to plan e.g. from Rysstad to Suleskard via scenic route - even when the date is set to e.g. summer (July).

Hi Diogenes S. Jesus & Stansted,

At the moment we're still limited to only being able to route you through roads that are currently open. Setting a future date will unfortunately not unlock being able to plan via roads that are open in the future.

I'll merge this into the existing ticket.

The same with the Alpine passes here in Switzerland.

Hi,

I’m trying to build an itinerary through the following waypoint, but the navigation is refusing to go through that, it’s like the road did not exist. You can easily reproduce by adding this waypoint: “Nufenen Pass, Nufenenpass, 3988 Obergoms”

Thanks!

Trying to plan a road trip through Norway and I find that the nav doesn't want to go over particular roads at all. An example is this route:
Start: 63, 2695 Grotli, Norge
Via: 6216 Stranda, Norge
Destination: Geirangervegen, 6216 Stranda, Norge

It will completely go around, and ignore the direct road. There are more instances like that and it prevents me from planning my trip using ABRP unfortunately.

The app an site are not recognizing when seasonal roads become OPEN. For example try to go to Yosemite from Lee Vining, CA.

Hi Samuele
It's a seasonal road that opened 31st May. We get our information from Open street map and it takes a couple of days before the information changes in our app. So at the latest on sunday you should be able to use this road.

Hi Matt,

Do you mean a closed road that'll be opened in the future or a road that has been opened and is accessible now?

The bigger roads with snow in winter, but open for the summer. Best example is going to from Lee Vining to Yosemite Valley in California.

I plan a holiday in the alps. But there seems to be no way to get pass roads into the plan. Even if I set departure time to July, the planning uses tunnels, not the mountain pass roads. This is a major problem to me.

Route doesn't go to the waypoint. It is a mountain road, it is closed part of the year, but there should be a setting to disregard seasonal closures as that makes future planing impossible.

I am trying to plan a trip from La Thuile (AO) to Tignes by Petit San Bernard. This mountain pass seems impossible in every seasons and with any capacity of battery car.

Independent from time of trip passes are used that are closed. For example the Timmelsjoch in the alps is open only between June and Oct. However ABRP sends you there the whole year.

Hello, the route planner does not take into account the Hahntennjoch Pass in Austria. It always builds a route around it.

Could you share the link to this plan? You can generate a link by clicking: share > share ABRP link

Here are 3 examples of roads with pass that are closed in winter in norway. The departures dates have been changed to summer but still avoids the pass. Please update the investigation status of this issue ? Thanks a lot

Hi Luc and others,

At the moment we can only create plans based on the current circumstances, and, as you've discovered this becomes problematic when creating plans for the future.

We fully understand the urgency of this but it is a more complex issue to solve and I'm sorry to say that while we'd absolutely want to be able to cater to your needs it'll most likely not be resolved anytime soon.

We'll keep this issue open and with the status 'investigate' as we've gotten no closer to it being resolved.

Same problem. Neither changing date of the trip or disabling live data helps. All passes are ignored (checked for Gotthard, Grimsel, Furka)

The roads I want to use are alpine passes. I set the date to the beginning of September next year, when the travel will take place.
The passes closed for the winter about a week ago. When I planned a trip with another route a few weeks ago it worked since the passes were open then.
A list of opening and closing dates for swiss passes during recent years can be found here:
alpen-paesse.ch/en/alpenpaesse/grimselpass/#downloads
under the link "Öffnung und Schliessung der Alpenpässe PDF (53 KB)".

Please provide some coordinates for a closed pass. I want to check the data from OSM. As we get the data from OSM it seems we either do not consider the date correctly if there is a conditional opening time for a road or someone just marked the road as closed on OSM which means we can not do anything about it.

Avatar

Samuel_ABRP

Ok i just quickly check myself. There seems to be a conditional access restriction which is not considered correctly. However it seems OSRM does not fully support it yet:
github.com/Project-OSRM/osrm-backend/issues/4231

We will check, if there is anything we can do about it.

Grimselpass, 3999 Obergoms, Wallis, Schweiz
46.56124, 8.33676
On a side note - the copy function for the position didn't work. Nothing happened. Maybe it's not a copy button?

Automatic settings is turned off when trying to plan this route

Avatar

Samuel_ABRP

Could you share some details on the closed roads? My guess is that they are marked as closed on OpenStreetMap, but i would like to know if there is a condition on those roads that we do not support. Did you try to set a date in the future for your trip?

Hi Bengt,

does it help to disable live traffic?
