Navigation goes back to starting point about 5 mins into journey

Something I have observed over the last couple of days.

Everytime I navigate to a destination and start my journey after a few minutes the map goes back to starting point. That is irritating as it is not where I am located.
I haven't observed any pattern on it but it happens everytime. Journeys observed on
31st Jan - journey to Brighton North Road,
30th Jan - Journey to Deepak foods Thornton heath.
I only use abrp to plan the journey and then export it to Waze as the navigation is unusable right now. Unfortunately I did not capture any screenshots. I am using abrp on Android 11 oxygen os(screen shot attached). on oneplus 7t. Location permissions are set to allow when in use for abrp. Hope all of this helps.

The email associated with the account is different to this one.

Regards,
Amol

Hi Robert,

sorry for getting back so late. Does this still happen for you?

Hi Samuel,

This happened to me again on Sunday. Could you please upgrade this issue to a bug rather than a feature request. It's unusable currently with this bug. I want to pay you money to support you but currently with this bug I don't feel that I can justify my subscription to your app.

Regards,
Amol

So it only happens with leafspy connected right? In that case please do the following:
Start your drive and as soon as the map goes back to starting point stop the car, go to settings and scroll down to "support & feedback". Then click on the first element which is either "contact support" or "give feedback" and then it asks you to send feedback to us, click yes. It will then show the share dialog of android OS, select your favorite mail client, for example google mail and it will prefill a mail for you with some data. Please send that mail to samuel@iternio.com and i'll check the logs.

BTW there might be a workaround, but please try it only after you have sent the debug data. In your car settings (gear icon behind your car) there are additional car and telemetry related settings. Toggle the setting for "override car position", that will use the gps data of your car instead of from telemetry if it is available from there. My guess is that leafspy sends invalid data, and we think it is the better data for some reason (for example timestamp) but it actually contains wrong data.

Hi Samuel, Thanks for a quick response. I have sent you logs of two instances where it happened this morning. The one at 8:29 UK time was a slightly different scenario where I had chosen a different route to the one suggested by ABRP and the navigation then stopped working. The one before 8:29 was slightly different to the one described above. In that instance the navigation simply stopped. ABRP did not go back to the point of origin if that makes sense.

I will now try after applying your workaround.

Hi Amol, now I'm a bit confused. Both descriptions do not sound like the original error you had. If in both cases the navigation stopped this sounds like a different error...

Also please update to latest 4.2.0 version before any new tests. We just released a new version yesterday.

But from the data you sent me I can see an issue already. The telemetry data does not update the position according to your current location. The location data from telemetry is always at the starting position of your drive. So as expected we did not get valid location data from telemetry, which causes weird issues during your drive. So LeafSpy does not seem to update the location during your drive. Please open an issue at LeafSpy to ask why the position data is not updated. The workaround with the "override car position" should definitely help with this.

Hi @Samuel. I have now tried with the workaround and abrp works flawlessly. I was digging in the Leafspy settings and came across the attached setting. I think Android was switching off Leafspy s location after about 5 mins in the background. That probably explains why Leafspy stopped sending location data. I will test with the GPS switched on Leafspy but at least for the moment abrp is working properly for me now.

Good to hear. That override option is actually ok to be used for cases like this. So if leaf spy does not send the data, we will fill it up from ABRP with that setting enabled. Will close this for now. If you have any other issues please open a new ticket.

Approved, only occurs when connected to LeafSpy.

bobosch.dyndns.org/screen-20220206-185050.mp4
00:25 Start driving (Arival SOC of 27% estimated, remember the shape of the route at start)
05:25 Issue happens, from now on you see the current SOC decreasing
17:54 Arrived at home (with 22% SOC) and I tried to recover functionality
18:30 ... with replaning the route
18:47 ... with restarting the app
19:43 ... with disabling Live SOC
20:13 ... with checking GPS
20:35 ... with reselecting home position
... does not work :-(
20:50 ... with installing and starting Google Maps
24:50 now ABRP works again - no idea why.

@Robert. This was exactly my experience. I haven't had a chance to replicate this in my own car.

@Amol Do you use LeafSpy or another car connection?

Avatar

Yes indeed @Robert I did use Leafspy on all the occasions I observed this behaviour. Maybe that is the trigger for this behaviour.

Same issue here. It happens between 5 and 10 minutes of navigation. Compass still works, but map does not move anymore.

Hi,
Could you please share a video of that behavior? I can't imagine right now what happens here, so a video might help to understand the problem. You can upload to YouTube for example as private video and share the link here.
