The Mode Button is shown if CarPlay is disconnected (screenshot #1).
But if CarPlay is connected the Mode Button disappears (screenshot #2).
The Mode Button on iPhone should be shown also if CarPlay is connected.
Also because you can only switch between three different views with the mode button on the CarPlay display (3D, next step, final destination), but with the mode button on the iPhone you can choose between even more views.

Hey Tom, intentionally are restrictive with adding settings to update car play to the companion mode. We are however going to add several settings and other updates to car play to make the experience even better. The mode button is removed as there is no map on the phone to change to mode of, and we as mentioned above do not want to update the car play settings from the phone.
I have seen you added the suggestion of adding the final destination map mode to car play as another card so I will close this one and we will continue looking into if we will add this map mode to car play and update you on that card.
