IPad Pro (11") with magic keyboard not working

  • Done

Hello,

When ABRT is used with an iPad Pro (with Magic Keyboard) then it is not possible to enter values in numeric fields like SoC (applies to all numeric fields)

The only way to enter data there is to remove the iPad from the keyboard and use the software keyboard on the screen.

This should (finally!) have been solved in version 4.2.6.

I cannot change ANY settings at the moment (SoC at start, battery degradation…). Currently using iPad OS 15.2.1. I’m a premium user, so this bugs me no end.

Hi,

do you use an attached keyboard? If so could you please try to disconnect and then check again? There seems to be an issue with input from a hardware keyboard, we are currently trying to resolve.

G

G. V.

Thanks for your advice, disconnecting the keyboard does work. Since I much prefer to use a keyboard and rarely take the iPad out (both for safety and the convenience of typing) I hope you’ll soon be able to fix this issue. Thanks for answering so quickly!

Problem temporarily fixed, see above.

Running iOS 15.2.1.

When i touch the boxes to update vehicle weight, destination SoC or any of the other adjustable parameters i just get a quick flash but it won’t highlight the existing data to allow me to change the value.

Hi, do you have a keyboard attached?

J

SFNMJack

Yes I do. It is an apple accessory.

Avatar

Samuel_ABRP

Please try to remove it, then it should work. We are working on a fix for the keyboard.

Removing the iPad from the hardware keyboard, and then using the Apple Pencil Pro to tap on the fields does not make the software keyboard appear either…

I tried on my iPad, did not work.
Tried on iPhone, it worked.
How does it work on Apple Car Play?

Avatar

Samuel_ABRP

What exactly did not work? Please show a screenshot or describe in more detail what you do.

You do the setup and detailed planning on the phone and then you can run it in CarPlay.

Avatar

Samuel_ABRP

Please provide more information. Where do you want to set it? You can go into app settings and set your current SoC there for example.

It seems that François manual Start-SOC entry is not editable.

F

Yes and yes👍

M

Massimo Fiorentino

Yep. Removing the iPad changes the input to the iOS software keyboard, and then you can punch in stuff…

With the latest update I can’t seem to change the departure SoC. It’s stuck at 90%. I doesn’t matter if I have the vehicle icon selected (blue) or deselected (grey)

My issue appears to be associated with my Apple external keyboard. If I remove the iPad from the keyboard, I have access to all user adjustable areas. However even that is not the best user experience. Clicking in the area to be adjusted will add additional characters to the existing value. You have to place the curser to the right of the value and use the delete key to enter anything else. Among other things, I didn’t have a very good user experience with ABRP during my round trip to Florida. The keyboard issue was supposed to be fixed with the latest app upgrade but I have 4.1.10 and still have the issue.

Unfortunately not fixed in latest release.

Avatar

Mattias_ABRP

Hey Ron, do you have 4.1.10 installed on your iPad? What iPad are you using and what iOS are you running?

R

Ron Lemmens

Yes, ABRP version is 4.1.10, IOS 15.2, iPad Pro 11 (MTXQ2NF/A) 256 Gb, Wifi, Model 2018

Avatar

Mattias_ABRP

Hey Ron,
it might be the 15.2 that is the issue. We will take a closer look at this in the coming days. As you might have read in this thread disconnecting the physical keyboard will work as a temporary fix to be able to typ in values.

This problem has now been fixed and should be working on the next release (4.1.10). If you still experience issues please report that as a bug so we can follow up on it.

Trying to plan a trip and looking ahead to my departure date. When on an iPad with the latest 15.1 iOS software, I cannot select any user selectable windows like SOC departure date, additional weight etc. I’ve clicked in all windows and a blue bar flashes under the text or numbers but I’m not allowed to change any of the settings.

Hi Sam. Yes I have the apple external keyboard. I tried what you asked and I now have the ability to change individual user settings with the keyboard disconnected. That will get me by. However, I discovered something else. I had the additional weight in the vehicle set to 400 lbs from the 200lbs default. That was the first window I tried to manipulate without the keyboard. I could change it, but it wouldn’t let me go higher than 399lbs. If I put in 500 lbs, it reverts back to 399. If I put 400 lbs in, it does the same. Perhaps a new bug? Thanks for your help, your suggestions will get me by while on the road. Cheers!

Samuel_ABRP

Hi Rick,

could you please open a seperate issue for the weight so we can check it in detail? Will merge this with the other keyboard issue in the meantime.

Cheers
Samuel

Avatar

Samuel_ABRP

Hi Rick,

Do you use a seperate keyboard on your iPad? If so could you please try if it works without the keyboard? We have a known issue with keyboards connected to iOS not working so well and are working on a fix.

Same issue. When vehicle symbol is deselected it is possible to type in 100% but once you plan a route it reverts to 90% automatically.

Avatar

Mattias_ABRP

Hey, if you press the vehicle symbol it will try to get the data from the car. If it has not connection it will set it to a default value which is 90. If you then unselect the live data it will stay at 90%. When the system gets a connection to the car the 90% default value will automatically update to the cars value.

What you describe with that the value set to 100% goes back to 90% when you charge sound like a different issue but might be related to something we fixed a while back.
Just to make sure you have no other issues around this can you double check that everything is working as it should? If not just write back here and we will take a look at it as soon as possible.

H

ShadowBJ21

It‘s not about charging. It’s about planning (so live connection is deselected). I checked it again and the problem happens on the first route calculation.

So I set the value to 100% and add a route manually or select a saved one and start the route planning it starts the route at 90%. When I go back to settings, change the value again to 100% and press the planning button again then it works fine.

But when I load another saved plan or delete the waypoints and and enter new ones manually it again reverts back to 90%.

Hey Tor, are you trying to edit the input fields in settings but with the on screen keyboard? Do you have an external keyboard connected to the iPad at the same time? Would also be helpfull to know the Ipad kind for us to look further into the issue.

T

Tor Hylin

Thanks for your email. To your question I am using the apple Smart Keyboard when experiencing the problem. I tried to make changes when not connected to the Smart Keyboard and it worked perfectly. I am using the latest IPad Pro with an M1 processor

Avatar

Mattias_ABRP

Great Tor then you at least have a way to get around the issue, until it's solved. Unfortunately this is a known bug that we have made attempts fixing but not succeeded yet.
I will merge this with the other questions related to this issue so you will get updates if there is any changes.

When you use an iPad Pro with the magic keyboard and you try to type with the keyboard in the SOC field, it won’t type. You have to undock the keyboard and type with the onscreen keyboard.

We have been able to reproduce this now - it only happens on iPad Pro with physical keyboard. It seems to be a bug somewhere in the combination of iOS and our development framework, and we can make it go away by doing some random reordering of UI components.
In other words, we have not found the root cause and we have not been able to fix it yet, but we are working on it.

Same here, works fine with OSK but with physical keyboard attached it looses focus on the input area.
