Closes App while in Android Auto and app on Mobile in Background.

Today I had a longer trip and I used ABRP with Android Auto on the carscreen. The Mobile was connected by USB. Starting and chosing the destination was without problem. As usual I activated on my mobile while in Android Auto Mode another App for Entertainment. This App pulled ABRP into Background. But about 5 Minutes later ABRP closed on the car screen of Android Auto and was not possible to reopen. As workaround I opend ABRP on the mobile and set the Entertainment App in small floating mode on top so the ABRP was still visible. That worked. But it is not the way I would like because using the Entertainment App in Small Mode is not really fine and more difficult. Before I had my EV the same setup but with Google Maps intead of ABRP worked perfectly. Please look into this issue. It would help a lot.

Thanks and keep the good work going.

Hi Karl,

we are currently experimenting with a solution to this and some similiar problems. We have a very basic test app, that just updates the position and does nothing else. With that test version we want to see, if the problems are gone, in your case if the map still updates after the 5 minutes where the app normally closes. If you want to help us testing let me know and send me a mail to samuel@iternio.com with your google account mail so i can add you to the list of testers and send you instructions.

Hello,
I already thought on that and disabled it after the first closing. But it still remained the same after.

I have a Samsung S10+ with Android 12 and the newest awailable Phone Software Version.
My Car is a Kia EV6 if this may also be interesting for the Android Auto Version.

Thank you.

Thanks. So this 5minute interval until the app is closed, is that always the same? If so could you please try to disable battery optimization for ABRP and check if that improves the situation?

Not sure how it is done on Samsung, but on Google Phone you can long click on the app icon and click on app info and then there is a battery option in that menu where you can configure the battery optimization. It should be on unrestricted.

Hi,

Which phone and android version do you have?

Also does this happen only once in a while, or is this easily reproducible every 5minutes?
