Alternate Routes Not Working At All

On any drive, If I select the 'routes' icon the 'finding alternatives' button appears and stays on screen for up to five minutes before eventually disappearing as though nothing was selected. On any drive I have been unable to bring up alternate routes regardless of whether one exists or not.

I have had the same problem. I notice here , ask McGr a question but you don't have an explanation or answer. Why ?

Are you using Android Auto or CarPlay or just the phone screen?

In my case I’m using Apple CarPlay when this occurs. I did submit a few bug reports. This happens after reinstalling the app also
Possibly related : I have experienced significant routing issues where ABRP believes there to be extreme levels of traffic where none exists. In many cases a 30 minute drive is estimated to take 2 hours because of traffic events that simply don’t exist. Could this erroneous data be the reason the alternate routing takes so long to process and causes the eventual timeout as described above?

Alternative routes seems to work fine in CarPlay (and in the app) for us, also when routing in Dallas. Sounds like the traffic issues could be the cause. Is the traffic wrong for you all the time or just at some occasions?
